Diabetes Education Center
The Diabetes Education Center helps those with diabetes learn self-management skills and make lifestyle changes to effectively manage their disease and avoid or delay the complications associated with it.
The center is staffed by certified diabetes educators.
Participants learn about:
Diabetes overview
Psychological adjustment & social support
Nutrition
Exercise and activity
Medications, if applicable
Blood sugar monitoring, if applicable
Proper treatment of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Behavioral change and goal setting
Prevention of chronic complications
Use of healthcare systems and community resources
Once you are referred by your doctor to the center, one of the educators will contact you to schedule your first appointment. Generally, the education is completed in three appointments over a three-month period.
Diabetes Information Group will
now meet in Lakeview Medical Center's Home Health Care/Hospice
Conference Room located in Towne Centre (formerly Marketplace).
The meetings will typically occur the fourth Thursday of the
month. We will not be meeting in April 2007. |
