 A pulmonologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and defects of the lungs and bronchial tree. They specialize in chronic pulmonary conditions that cannot be treated surgically; pulmonary problems that require surgery are usually referred to a general or thoracic surgeon.
