Digital mammography is a low-dose X-ray examination that is the most sensitive exam currently available, detecting breast cancer up to two years before a tumor is large enough to be felt. Remember, all abnormalities suggested on a mammogram are not cancer. In fact, most are not. A follow-up study may be recommended. This is fairly common and should not be cause for concern. The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for all women beginning at age 40.

Now available at Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake, 3D mammogram technology. 3D mammogram detects 41% more invasive breast cancers than traditional screening. Reduces false-positives up to 40%. Early detection increases the five-year survival rate to nearly 100%.
